BEST Subsidiary RI Research Instruments GmbH Awarded a Certificate of Commendation for Initial Commissioning of the Linac for BNL’s National Synchrotron Light Source II

BERGISCH GLADBACH, Germany – May 17, 2012 - RI Research Instruments GmbH (RI), a majority-owned subsidiary of Bruker Energy & Supercon Technologies (BEST), Inc., was awarded a certificate of commendation at a Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) ceremony on April 26, 2012 celebrating the completion of the NSLS-II ring building and the initial commissioning of the linear accelerator (linac) delivered by RI (http://www.bnl.gov/today/story.asp?ITEM_NO=3042).

Two years after receipt of the contract by RI (http://www.research-instruments.de/frontend/press-100421), the linac has been fully installed and it achieved major beam parameters ahead of schedule; full acceptance testing is ongoing (http://www.bnl.gov/today/story.asp?ITEM_NO=3054).

This linac represents the first key element of third generation synchrotron light sources. It generates, accelerates and delivers an electron beam of superior quality to be used in a storage ring for generating x-rays, ultraviolet light and infrared light for research in such diverse fields as biology and medicine, chemistry and environmental sciences, physics, and materials science.

Michael Peiniger, Managing Director of RI, added: “Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the Brookhaven team, and based on our experience with such linear accelerators, this project was accomplished very effectively. We look forward to supplying many more laboratories worldwide with our accelerator systems in the future.”
